Feedbutton Writing a great blog is only the beginning. You have to market it to get followers and subscribers. It’s not easy, but there are some tools that can help.

Free:

  • Promote it on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter sites by adding links to your posts. In some cases, you can do this automatically from your blog, but often these don’t provide the same visibility options as posting it manually, which allows you to comment.

  • On Facebook, add your blog to NetworkedBlogs.com and invite your friends to become a fan.

  • Put social bookmarking widgets such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious and Reddit on your blog so that people can recommend it to others.

  • Go to Technorati.com and “claim” your blog. This gets it indexed in the largest directory of blogs on the Web.

  • Add your blog to the directory BlogTopSites.com.

  • Add a RSS feed such as Feedburner (free) or Feedblitz (fee-based but with added benefits) to your blog and give readers the option to also subscribe by email.

  • Build a lens on Squidoo.com and add your best posts there, directing readers back to your blog.

  • Join a blogging community such as MyBlogLogs.com.

Paid:

  • Submit your blog to AlphaInventions.com and watch your stats go up immediately. It allows viewers to get a “tour” of multiple blogs, then choose which ones they would like to explore further by hitting the “pause” button. You can add it for free for a temporary ride, but pay for a subscription and it stays in the rotation 100 times longer.

  • Advertise your blog on Facebook, Google Adwords or StumbleUpon.
